What is Uber?

Uber Technologies, Inc. is a global technology platform that revolutionized the transportation and logistics industry. Originally launched as a ride-hailing service, Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves by providing a seamless, on-demand marketplace that connects consumers with independent service providers for rides, food delivery (Uber Eats), and freight logistics.

How Does Uber Work?

Uber operates through a sophisticated mobile application that acts as a two-sided marketplace. Users request a service, such as a ride or a meal delivery, and the platform's proprietary algorithms match that request with a nearby driver or courier in real-time. The system calculates pricing based on demand, distance, and time, manages secure payments, and provides GPS tracking for both parties to ensure efficiency and safety.

What Makes Uber Unique?

Uber's uniqueness lies in its massive global scale and its 'super-app' strategy, which integrates mobility, delivery, and logistics into a single ecosystem. Key features include its diverse service tiers (from budget-friendly UberX to luxury Uber Black), the Uber One membership program, and its aggressive expansion into autonomous vehicle technology (Robotaxis) and electric air taxis, positioning it as a leader in the future of urban mobility.

Who Are the Founders of Uber?

Uber was founded in 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick. Garrett Camp, a serial entrepreneur who previously co-founded StumbleUpon, conceived the initial idea after struggling to hail a taxi in Paris. Travis Kalanick, also a successful entrepreneur (Red Swoosh), partnered with Camp to scale the concept into a global powerhouse. Since 2017, the company has been led by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, former CEO of Expedia.
