What is Charles Schwab?

Charles Schwab is a leading American financial services company that provides brokerage, banking, and wealth management services. Recently, the firm has expanded into the digital asset space with 'Schwab Crypto', a dedicated platform allowing retail investors to trade major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum directly through their existing brokerage ecosystem.

How Does Charles Schwab Work?

The Charles Schwab digital asset ecosystem operates through Schwab Crypto accounts offered by Charles Schwab Premier Bank. It leverages a partnership with Paxos, a regulated blockchain infrastructure provider, to handle sub-custody and trade execution. This allows clients to buy, sell, and hold spot digital assets alongside their traditional stocks and bonds within a unified interface.

What Makes Charles Schwab Unique?

Charles Schwab stands out by integrating direct cryptocurrency trading into a massive, trusted traditional finance framework. Unlike crypto-native exchanges, Schwab provides institutional-grade custody through a federally supervised trust framework, 24/7 professional support, and competitive pricing with a transparent 0.75% transaction fee and zero spread.

Who Are the Founders of Charles Schwab?

The company was founded by Charles R. 'Chuck' Schwab in 1971. A pioneer of the discount brokerage industry, Schwab is credited with 'democratizing' investment by lowering commissions and making the stock market accessible to individual retail investors.
